A scrap broker sources scrap and resells it through ScrapTrade

A scrap broker is an intermediary. You source scrap from an original seller, then list and sell it to buyers on ScrapTrade. To the platform you work like any other seller, with an extra classification showing that you are a broker and a reference to the seller you represent.

How it works on ScrapTrade

  • Same tools as a seller: listings, selling, order management and payment work as they do for any seller.
  • Broker classification: your account is marked as a scrap broker.
  • Original seller recorded: each listing identifies the seller you represent.
  • Margin arranged privately: you agree your margin or commission with the original seller yourself.
  • Standard platform fees apply to broker transactions.

Register as a seller

Your margin is between you and the original seller

You buy or take the material on terms you agree with the original seller, then list it at your own price. The difference, before your expenses, is your potential margin. ScrapTrade does not calculate it, take a share of it or pay any of it to the original seller. Standard platform fees apply to the sale, as for any seller. See broker margin explained for a worked example.

What you are responsible for

As far as the platform is concerned, you are the seller. You are responsible for the authenticity of the listing and for meeting a seller's obligations, such as delivering what you described. You also need the authority to sell the material, and you handle payment to the original seller yourself. See broker responsibilities.

Two different roles with similar names

A broker sources scrap and resells it as a seller. A scrap agent is hired by a seller or buyer to help them for a commission set on the platform. If you want help with your own scrap, see hire a scrap agent. For the comparison, read scrap agent versus scrap broker.
